Important Update:
Training Certificates for New CCW Permits
Effective immediately, Sonoma County will no longer accept training certificates from new CCW permit applicants if the training occurred before the student was authorized by our agency. Please ensure that all new students are made aware of this requirement to avoid any issues during the application process.
Due to high demand, we strongly advise that all renewal applications and requirements be completed and submitted at least 90 days prior to the permit expiration date. This will help ensure permits are issued on time and do not lapse. Renewal applicants may complete the 8-hour renewal course up to three months prior to their permit expiration. Please also note that backdated or predated certificates will not be accepted under any circumstances.
We appreciate your cooperation in maintaining compliance with these updated guidelines. Should you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Best regards,
Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office
What does this mean for you…
New Issue CCW:
A new applicant for your CCW permit, DO NOT take any new issue class before you have been approved. If you do, it will not be valid and you will need to take a new class. There are no exceptions to this.
Renewing your CCW permit:
For renewing your CCW permit, prior to 90 days to expiration you should log onto the system and fill out your renewal application.
You should consider looking at class dates well in advance; remember your class date must be within 90 days of your permit expiration. Again, there are no exceptions to this time line.
